About

Hello! I’m Phoebe, the maker behind Brigid Jewellery.

Brigid Jewellery is a collection of stories. Folk tales, traditions, customs and symbols all play a role in the jewellery I create.

We are named after the Goddess Brigid, also known as Saint Brigid, Brigit and Bríd, who was master of healing, metalsmithing and Goddess of Spring. The Irish and pagan custom of Imbolc celebrates her and her legacy with the iconic Brigid Cross, made from reeds or straw. I have long since been inspired by the tales of her strength, creativity and love of nature, as well as other folk tales of Britain and Ireland. My jewellery is an ode to them.

I create jewellery in bronze, silver and gold using the lost-wax method; an ancient process that turns carved wax into solid metal. This method often leaves the marks and prints of the maker, leaving the jewellery with a tactile and unique quality.

Jewellery-making is an extension of my art practice, and a way to carry amulets of healing and nature close to all those that wear these pieces. I also use jewellery in other ways, in my job as an Artist-in-Residence in several London Hospitals, where some of my pieces are displayed. My latest project, 'Endometriosis Charms', is a charm necklace representing real stories from 10 people with Endometriosis, which hangs in a Gynaecology waiting room.
